10x10 Heated and Unheated Storage Units in Halifax

Whether you are preparing for a move, renovation, or growing business needs, a 10x10 storage unit gives you practical extra space without renting a larger unit than necessary.

At Bay Self Storage’s Timberlea facility, our 100 sq. ft. units can accommodate furniture, moving boxes, household overflow, business supplies, and more. Choose heated or unheated storage, with interior ground-level or exterior drive-up access, to match your belongings and loading needs.

We proudly serve residential and business customers across Halifax, Bayers Lake, Bedford, and surrounding communities.

How Big Is a 10x10 Storage Unit?

A 10x10 storage unit measures approximately 10 feet wide by 10 feet long, providing 100 sq. ft. of floor space. The amount you can store depends on the size of your belongings, how you arrange them, and the space needed for access.

100-Square-Foot Footprint

A 100 sq ft storage unit offers approximately the same floor area as a small bedroom. Depending on their dimensions, you may be able to store a sofa, mattress, dismantled bed frame, dresser, side table, and several moving boxes together.

However, floor area is only part of the equation. The height of the unit, dimensions of individual items, stacking arrangements, and space left for walking all affect its usable capacity. Measuring large belongings before renting helps you make a more accurate decision.

How to Organize a 10x10 Storage Unit

How many boxes fit in a 10x10 storage unit? Approximately 100 medium-sized boxes can serve as a rough planning example for a space filled mainly with boxes. Actual capacity can vary widely depending on box size, stacking height, furniture, and access needs.

To make the most of your unit, place larger belongings and items you rarely need toward the back. Keep heavier boxes underneath lighter containers, and leave frequently used items within reach.

Disassemble furniture where practical, use sturdy stackable boxes, and avoid creating unstable piles.

A Medium Storage Unit for Home and Business

Our 10x10 self-storage unit suits a variety of residential and commercial needs.

Homeowners can store furniture and boxes during renovations, and renters may need temporary space between homes. The unit can also accommodate household overflow without requiring a substantially larger storage space.

For small businesses, 100 sq. ft. may provide room for packaged inventory, office furniture, supplies, and appropriate equipment.

Choose the storage environment based on the materials you're storing, especially temperature-sensitive merchandise or records.

Heated and Unheated 10x10 Storage Unit Options

Bay Self Storage offers both heated and unheated 10x10 units, so you can choose based on your belongings and storage needs.

Prices vary by configuration and are billed every four weeks; taxes apply. Visit our current storage rates page to compare available options.

10x10 Heated Storage Unit

Our heated 10x10 storage units maintain temperatures of 10°C or above, helping protect belongings from freezing temperatures during Nova Scotia winters. This option may be appropriate for certain wooden furniture, upholstered furnishings, household decorations, and boxed possessions that are sensitive to prolonged cold.

Heated storage doesn't provide active cooling or controlled humidity. Items vulnerable to moisture or requiring strict preservation conditions need additional consideration.

We offer heated 10x10 units with interior hallway access or exterior drive-up access, with different door arrangements depending on the configuration.

10x10 Unheated Storage Unit

Our 10x10 unheated storage units provide enclosed space without maintaining a regulated minimum temperature. They're a practical option for belongings that tolerate seasonal changes, such as dry plastic storage containers, sturdy shelving, bicycles, garden equipment, outdoor furniture, and durable tools.

Although your belongings stay in an enclosed unit, temperature and humidity can still vary. Clean and dry everything thoroughly before storage, and use appropriate protective packing.

Both interior ground-level and exterior drive-up access are available for our unheated 10x10 units.

Which Types of Storage Units Are Best for Storing Furniture?

The best storage environment for furniture depends on its materials, condition, and how long you plan to store it.

Wooden furniture, leather, upholstery, and composite materials may be more sensitive to temperature fluctuations than metal shelving or durable outdoor furniture.

If you're storing a wooden dresser, sofa, dining set, or mattress during a move, heated storage may help limit exposure to freezing temperatures. However, heating alone doesn't prevent moisture-related damage.

Whichever unit you select, thoroughly clean and dry furniture and use appropriate protective coverings. A piece of furniture may fit comfortably inside a 10x10 unit but still require a different storage environment.

Facility Access and Loading Options

All four of our 10x10 configurations provide ground-level access. The main differences involve how you reach your unit and the type of door provided.

Interior Ground-Level Access

Our interior 10x10 units are accessible through short hallways without stairs or elevators.

Unheated interior units have garage-style roll-up doors and hallway access of no more than 10 feet. Heated interior units also have roll-up doors and hallway access of no more than 20 feet. These arrangements work well for moving boxes, furniture, and business supplies, but you must carry or transport belongings through the hallway.

When storing larger items, consider doorway clearance, hallway turns, and the space required to manoeuvre furniture safely.

Exterior Drive-Up Access

Our exterior 10x10 units allow customers to bring a suitable vehicle close to the storage entrance, reducing carrying distances during loading and unloading.

The door arrangement depends on the storage environment:

  • Unheated exterior units: Garage-style roll-up doors.
  • Heated exterior units: Double-insulated man doors.

This distinction matters when moving wide sofas, mattresses, or other bulky belongings. Both configurations provide exterior access, but their door openings and loading clearances differ.

Our team can help you decide which arrangement best fits your belongings.

24/7 Entry and Facility Security

Customers have authorized access to our Timberlea facility 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Entry is controlled through a computerized gate using an issued access card or supported smartphone app. This allows you to retrieve business supplies before work, drop off moving boxes in the evening, or visit your unit on weekends. Our facility also features perimeter fencing, video surveillance, site lighting, and individually alarmed storage units.

These measures provide multiple layers of access control and monitoring. Customers are responsible for securing their individual units with their own locks.

Staffed office hours are separate from facility access hours.
