5x5 Heated and Unheated Storage Units in Halifax, NS

When boxes, seasonal belongings, or small business supplies start crowding your home or workspace, a compact storage unit can make a meaningful difference.

Bay Self Storage offers heated and unheated 5x5 storage units at our Timberlea facility, providing 25 sq. ft. of enclosed space for smaller loads without paying for more room than you need.

Choose a heated interior unit or an unheated exterior drive-up unit based on your belongings and preferred access. We serve customers throughout Halifax, Bayers Lake, Bedford, and surrounding communities.

How Big Is a 5x5 Storage Unit?

A 5x5 storage unit provides 25 sq. ft. of floor space, making it practical for smaller loads rather than entire rooms of furniture. Its usable capacity depends on your belongings and how you arrange them.

25-Square-Foot Footprint

A 5x5 unit measures approximately five feet wide by five feet deep, giving it a footprint similar to a small walk-in closet. It's useful when you have more belongings than an ordinary household cupboard can accommodate but don't need a large storage space.

Unlike smaller storage lockers that may have limited height, Bay Self Storage's 5x5 units are ground-level walk-in spaces. The 25 sq. ft. measurement describes the floor area. Actual storage capacity also depends on ceiling clearance and safe stacking arrangements.

How Much Can You Fit in a 5x5 Storage Unit?

A 5x5 unit may accommodate approximately six to eight medium-sized moving boxes, two suitcases, and a folding chair or another narrow item, depending on their dimensions.

That's one possible arrangement, not a fixed capacity. A unit filled mainly with stackable boxes will hold a different combination of belongings than one containing a bicycle or bookcase.

Place sturdy, heavier boxes on the bottom and lighter containers on top. Keep items you'll need sooner close to the entrance.

If you're unsure whether your belongings will fit, try our Storage Size Estimator before choosing your unit.

Household Boxes and Seasonal Items

Our 5x5 units are well suited to belongings you don't use every day, including seasonal clothing, holiday decorations, luggage, books, sports accessories, and smaller household items. They're also useful for decluttering or temporarily clearing a room during renovations.

Small businesses can store boxed office supplies, promotional materials, packaged non-sensitive merchandise, and suitable records.

For photographs, important documents, electronics, or sensitive inventory, consider whether the unit provides the right environmental conditions.

Choose Heated or Unheated 5x5 Storage

Bay Self Storage offers two 5x5 configurations with different temperature conditions and loading arrangements.

Your choice depends on what you're storing, how long you need the space, and whether direct vehicle access or protection from freezing temperatures matters more.

Both options have separate published rates, billed every four weeks with taxes extra. You can compare current prices on our storage rates page.

5x5 Heated Storage Unit

Our heated 5x5 storage unit maintains temperatures of at least 10°C, helping reduce exposure to freezing conditions during Nova Scotia winters. This option may be appropriate for certain wooden or upholstered furniture pieces, household decorations, and boxed belongings sensitive to prolonged cold.

The unit has a garage-style roll-up door and ground-level interior hallway access, with no more than 30 feet between the hallway entrance and the unit.

Heating doesn't regulate humidity or provide cooling, so belongings vulnerable to moisture still require proper preparation and protection.

5x5 Unheated Storage Unit

Our unheated 5x5 storage unit provides enclosed ground-level space with exterior drive-up access and a garage-style roll-up door. This configuration works well for durable items such as dry plastic storage bins, outdoor accessories, small metal shelving, and sturdy tools that can handle seasonal temperature changes.

Since the unit isn't temperature-regulated, it's important to clean and thoroughly dry belongings before storing them.

Sensitive documents, electronics, unfinished wood, and other items requiring stable environmental conditions may need a different storage option.

Comparing Temperature and Access

If you're storing belongings that may be affected by freezing temperatures, our heated interior 5x5 unit may be the better option.

For durable items and convenient vehicle-side loading, the unheated drive-up unit offers a practical alternative.

Storage duration matters, especially when items will remain in place through winter.

We offer a four-week minimum rental, with the option to extend. There's no administrative fee, although a refundable $50 security deposit is required.

Online reservations also require a $75 reservation fee, which is credited toward the first rental period if you move in within the specified 28-day window. Otherwise, the fee is forfeited.

Accessing Your 5x5 Storage Unit

Both 5x5 configurations provide ground-level storage at our controlled-access Timberlea facility. The main difference is how you move belongings from your vehicle into the unit.

Interior and Drive-Up Access

Our heated 5x5 units are accessible through a ground-level interior hallway no more than 30 feet long.

You'll carry or transport boxes, luggage, and other belongings from your vehicle through the hallway to reach the unit.

Our unheated 5x5 units have exterior drive-up access, so you can park a suitable vehicle near the roll-up door. This can reduce carrying distances, especially when unloading several boxes or making repeated trips.

Neither configuration requires you to move belongings between floors or use an elevator.

Ground-Level Storage with 24/7 Access

Bay Self Storage provides authorized access to our facility 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Customers receive an access card for the controlled entrance gate and can also use a supported smartphone app.

You can retrieve holiday decorations before an event, collect seasonal sporting equipment on weekends, or access business supplies outside regular working hours.

Ground-level access makes these visits straightforward when you're carrying smaller loads.

Our staffed office hours are separate from customer access hours, so employees aren't necessarily available whenever you visit.

Individual Alarms and Controlled Entry

Our Timberlea facility uses several security measures to help protect stored belongings and manage access. These include perimeter fencing, a computerized entrance gate, video surveillance, site lighting, and individually alarmed storage units.

The entrance gate controls access, cameras monitor activity, and unit alarms add an extra layer of security.

Customers secure their units using their own locks or locks purchased from Bay Self Storage.
